May 2017
Dear SWAN Friends,
Our long-time work to protect, preserve and steward the lands surrounding our drinking water reservoirs is only possible by the good and tireless energies of our volunteers and regular staff. Those of us running the organization dedicate hundreds of unpaid hours per year to keeping the organization viable and business compliant.
With the loss of our Co-Director three+ years ago, and with many of our supporters leaving the area, getting older and less active, or departing this world for another, we urgently need new volunteers to help us keep pace with the much-needed work there is to do around here...both in our office and out in the environment.
If you are a good organizer, communicator, worker-bee, and
nature lover, we need your help in the public arena and behind the scenes.
Some of the tasks that need special attention are:
- Getting the word out about programs and projects
- Interacting with key contacts and participants before,
during, and after events
- Caring for our pollinator and other gardens
- Organizing the office to be more efficient
To volunteer or for further information, please contact
us immediately at 201-666-1877 or bergenswanrsvp@gmail.com.
Thank you!
Best wishes,
Lori Charkey
Director
March 2014
Dear Friends,
First, thank you kindly for your
unprecedented support during the past few weeks following the loss of our
beloved Co-Director, Mark Becker. This
has been the most difficult and challenging time in the history of our organization,
and your faith in our past and future work has been affirming and encouraging.
Bergen SWAN will be busy in 2014
with several conservation projects – we are trying to help safeguard open space
in Hillsdale, New Milford, and Montvale; conducting a grant-funded inventory in
the Pascack Valley of green infrastructure and open space opportunities that
will benefit stormwater management; and continuing to monitor the plantings in
the stream restoration project installed in Emerson Woods last year.
Now more than ever, we need
volunteer assistance to make our programs and projects more manageable. Please contact us via email or phone if you
have time and skills to share.
We look forward to seeing you
soon, and thank you again for being at our side.
Sincerely,
Lori Charkey
